Student Volunteer Week is running from the 24th -28th February 2014 and is a fantastic way to get involved in helping both within the local community and on Campus.
The Student Union has collated a jam packed week full of events to get you involved in giving back to the local community, your university and learning more about volunteering both at university and abroad.
Monday: Good Deed day.
Monday is Good Deed Day on Campus and we are asking you all to do something nice, however big or small, for a fellow student, lecturer, member of staff, stranger or even to benefit everyone! Even small ideas can have a huge impact and this is a fantastic way to brighten up someone’s start to the week. Your good deed could range from holding the door open for someone, giving a compliment, donating a small amount to charity or just taking the time to stop, smile, chat to someone or even get them their Monday morning cup of tea.
Good deeds are infectious, let’s see if we can spread this through campus and involve everyone in both giving and receiving a good deed. Even better, video or take a picture of your good deed and tweet us at @winchestersu, we want to know what you’ve been up to!
Heads up will be doing their own good deed, look out for encouraging notes popping up around campus, aiming to make you smile and think positively for the day.
At 2pm in the Stripe Lecture Room on Monday there will be a Naomi House: The Real Hustle Briefing, where you can find out more about the event that will be held on Friday to raise money and awareness for Naomi House!
Wednesday: The Big Tidy Up!
Wednesday sees the return of The Big Tidy Up! This event was a fantastic success earlier this semester so let’s aim to make this week’s even bigger. We received so many positive comments from the local community last time and it would be brilliant if students could continue the hard work to make a noticeable difference within the local area. The Big Tidy Up starts at 1pm outside the shop on main campus, if you would like to find out more please e-mail [email protected]. We are even doing our good deed and offering a free entry to Bop that night for all who get involved.
Thursday: Volunteering Drop in Sessions.
On Thursday Volunteering Drop in will be held in St Edburga 303 from 10.30-12 by the University Volunteering Department, where students will be able find out more about projects they can get involved with. There will also be a meeting on Volunteering Abroad in Main Building Room 2 from 1-2pm.
Friday: Live at Home Tea Party & The Real Hustle
On Friday students from The University of Winchester will be hosting a tea party at Winchester Live at home! We need all the help we can get from pairs of hands to help serve on the day to great student bakers that can whip up a batch of cupcakes or something more advanced!
Winchester Live at Home Scheme is a local charity that offers support and friendship to those older people who are living in their own homes, often alone. They help to maintain independent living as well as improve well-being and reduce isolation!
This is a great opportunity to take part in a volunteering event as a team, society, house, flat or even individually. Please contact [email protected] for more information or if you would like to help by joining the tea party or baking cakes for the day!
Naomi House: The Real Hustle will also be taking place between 9.30 and 3.30, so make sure you attend the briefing on Monday 2pm Stripe lecture room to find out more about what will be going on in the day!
